About Wild Loon Ranch and Sanctuary

Wild Loon Ranch & Sanctuary is a safe haven for animals who need a second chance and a place where compassion, stewardship, and the quiet rhythms of nature come together. Nestled in the open spaces of Colorado, the sanctuary provides lifelong refuge for livestock, equines, and a wide variety of fowl—each with their own story, personality, and path to healing.

Our mission is simple but deeply rooted: to offer protection, rehabilitation, and dignity to animals who have been neglected, abandoned, displaced, or surrendered, while fostering a deeper connection between people, animals, and the land we share.

At Wild Loon Ranch and Sanctuary, more than 100 animals call our farm home where they live here in peace, surrounded by open pasture, fresh air, and the gentle care of dedicated hands.

Many arrive frightened, underweight, or unsure of humans. With time, patience, and individualized care, they rediscover trust, comfort, and the freedom to simply be.

Every resident—whether a wise old horse, a mischievous goat, or a soft‑feathered hen—receives:

  • Safe, species‑appropriate housing
  • Nutritious feed and clean water
  • Veterinary care and rehabilitation
  • Enrichment, companionship, and room to roam
  • A promise that they will never again face neglect or uncertainty

Meet the Herd

The Founder- El Scipione

El’s unique blend of humor, warmth and personality, combined with her attention to detail, has helped her grow into a seasoned farmer and homesteader. Because of her personality, she has an uncanny way of connecting with all animals and people from all walks of life.

El has been working with domestic animals for over 30 years but found her passion for farm animals about 13 years ago, working as a farm manager for a large private farm owner in Kansas. Some of her experience includes several farm management positions, city petting zoo manager, rescue coordinator for a large animal shelter, and has been working with rescue groups since 2006, later opening her own 501c3 nonprofit animal rescue organization in 2015.

In July 2002, El graduated with honors from the U.S. Army School of Nursing and continued to serve for 8 years as a combat nurse. El then went on to acquire an education in veterinary technology, while continuing her career in nursing.

At Wild Loon Ranch, inspired by her father's love for the beauty of nature, we take tremendous pride as created to provide a unique balance of serenity, recycling and farm environment for all critters that live there.

So come visit us and sit awhile.

Rooted in Stewardship and Sustainability

Wild Loon Ranch is more than a sanctuary—it’s a working model of responsible land stewardship. Our commitment to sustainable practices extends beyond caring for rescued animals and into the very soil they stand on. Through thoughtful grazing management, we maintain healthy pastures, reduce fire fuel loads, and support the natural regeneration of native plants.

A key part of this effort is Pasture Pros Grazing Services, our eco‑friendly vegetation management program. Using goats and sheep as natural land‑clearing partners, Pasture Pros helps local landowners control brush, eliminate invasive weeds, and restore overgrown spaces without chemicals or heavy machinery. This service not only benefits the community but also provides meaningful, enriching work for our herd—allowing them to contribute to healthier ecosystems while living full, natural lives.

This harmony between animals, land, and community is at the heart of our philosophy: care for the land, and the land will care for us.

Education, Connection, and Community

The sanctuary also serves as an outdoor classroom, welcoming students, teachers, scouts, and community groups for hands‑on learning experiences.

Visitors discover the realities of animal husbandry, homesteading, horticulture, and sustainable living while meeting the animals who make it all possible.

Through tours, field trips, workshops, and volunteer opportunities, Wild Loon Ranch inspires compassion, curiosity, and a deeper respect for the natural world.

A Place Built on Heart Where Every Life Matters

The sanctuary reflects decades of dedication to animal welfare and land stewardship.

Wild Loon Ranch & Sanctuary stands as a reminder that healing is possible, that kindness is powerful, and that every animal—no matter their past—deserves safety, respect, and a chance to thrive.

Here, nature meets nurture, and hope finds a home.

Wild Loon Ranch & Sanctuary offers a compassionate, judgment‑free option for those needing to surrender livestock, equine, or fowl. We understand that circumstances change and life happens, and sometimes rehoming an animal is the most responsible and loving choice. Hooves, Feathers & Zip Ties: Wild Loon Ranch Life

Where the animals have opinions, the goats have schemes, and the humans are just here for moral support.

Congratulations — you’ve stumbled into the official blog of Wild Loon Ranch & Sanctuary, the only place where a chicken can stage a coup, a sheep can gaslight you, and a goat can file a complaint about the quality of snacks… all before 9 AM.

Life out here is basically a sitcom where nobody warned you, you are the main character, and the animals are the writers. Chaos and love all right here...
